Paris’ Songs & Smiles journey

Paris’ Songs & Smiles journey

I stumbled across The Together Project’s Songs & Smiles after seeing a Facebook post in my local community group. I was intrigued and after a little research I immediately signed up me and my son, Ajani.

Our first session, and every session since, has been amazing! Watching Ajani grow in confidence each week was a big one for me as he was quite wary of adults - he now happily greets Gemma (the leader), Margret (the volunteer), Care home staff, residents and all his little friends. He’s always keen to help with handing out shaky eggs, wooden sticks and colourful scarfs, and the bonus - tidying up! A definite reflection of his new found confidence.

We found the Songs & Smiles sessions were relaxed, friendly and welcoming. When I was pregnant with my daughter all the residents were speculating about when she would arrive. When she did (not sure who won the sweepstake) Elliana attended her first session at only 6 days old, much to the joy of all the residents.

Over time we have attended a few fundraising events and met other staff at The Together Project, everyone was so friendly, passionate and welcoming, that (having worked previously facilitating mother and baby classes) I was keen to support their vision of a connected, inclusive society in which everyone has the opportunity to form joyful intergenerational friendships. I decided after maternity leave I would try my best to join them as a team member.

A few months later I auditioned and I start as session leader in January and cannot wait!
