About Songs & Smiles:

Songs & Smiles is a multi-age event that unites babies/toddlers, their parents/guardians and care home residents. It brings an incredible amount of joy to the elderly residents, many of whom are unable to get out and about and can feel a bit lonely and isolated.

It also helps widen children’s understanding of society by introducing them to a generation that they might not otherwise meet in their day-to-day lives. And parents/guardians benefit too, by making new friends and widening their social circle.

What you’ll be doing:

You’ll be helping us publicise the sessions in the local community by spreading the word to parents and guardians of young children.

This might involve:

  • Researching and creating a plan of who, when and where you’re going to target
  • Approaching places like libraries and community centres that might display our posters
  • Handing out flyers
  • Identifying suitable places to promote our events online

In a wider sense, you’ll be helping to unite the community and tackle loneliness, which is really rewarding.

What we’re looking for:

We’re looking for an organised, proactive and reliable person who’s good at online research as well as speaking to people face-to-face. No previous experience is required.

This role would greatly suit someone looking for PR/marketing/publicity work experience. It would also suit someone who is currently out of work or works part-time and has a few hours to spare.

Location and commitment:

You will be assigned a publicity project in a local neighbourhood to promote our sessions in. At the moment we're looking for volunteers in north London.

Each publicity project will take around 8-10 hours to complete and we’d ideally like you to commit to at least one full project – but we’d love you to do more if you’re interested! You will be working from home and out-and-about and you can manage your time to suit your schedule – this could be a mixture of weekdays, weekends and evenings; whatever suits you best.

You will need to have access to a computer to carry out your work. If you don’t have one at home, this could be done somewhere like your local library.

You will be asked to attend a training session before starting, which will take a maximum of one hour.

Reasonable travel and lunch expenses will be paid if agreed in advance.
